Charlie's favorite book

Today was "Bring your favorite book to school Day" for Charlie. After listing through about 10 different books he couldn't decide what his favorite book was. He didn't want to take any of the ones that we said. Finally, even though it wasn't one that we mentioned, Charlie said "I want to take Dad's book." That made me feel good. He's a good boy! :)

What's included in T-Man and the Game...

Like I said yesterday, I wrote this book specifically for my son after talking to him about the things he likes best about a sports book. So what are those things? Who would like to read this book? Well, here's what's included:

1) Lots of basketball action. My son's biggest complaint with sports books is that he has to read five chapters before there's even a single basketball game. That's not a problem with this book as it's jam packed with basketball.

2) Something to make you laugh. When there's a break in the basketball action, the interaction between the characters is comical. They have a fun relationship.

3) Clean book without mature themes. Some of my son's favorite authors tend to get a little too mature for him. So, this book doesn't feature any of that.

4) The growth of the main character, Tommy, as the season progresses.

The story behind T-Man and the Game

I never really expected that I'd write a kids book. Well, shoot, I never really expected that I'd write any book at all, but definitely not a kids book. But I also never expected that my son would be a sports book reading maniac. Tim Green - he's read them all. Mike Lupica - breezed through those. Cal Ripken, Ryan Howard, he's read them all. He's even tackled most of the Matt Christopher books. A problem that he's been running into is that the material is starting to be a little too mature for a first grader.

So I decided I needed to get busy. My son, of course, polished off my book in an evening. Seemed like a lot of work for something that he finished so quickly, but he still talks about the story line with me all the time. That makes it worth it!

T-Man and the Game

My new middle grade book, T-Man and the Game, will be released soon. My son Charlie was running out of sports books that didn't have more mature themes so I decided to write one for him. I'm very excited about it being completed! I can't wait to have him take a look at it. I still have some last minute editing work to do, but I'm hoping to get a proof copy in the mail next week and get it finalized by mid-April.
